Leadership & Awards

Leadership

This year I have very quickly learned that being Editor-in-Chief entails a lot of work inside and outside of the classroom. Making all of the big decisions for the book like the theme and design elements, along with conversing with my senior editors to make sure everything is going smoothly. With our publication being student lead and student-run we are tasked with teaching those younger than us while also learning ourselves.

Although however stressful being a leader within the classroom gets it continues to pay off. When a freshman finally understands something that I've been trying to get through to them for weeks, or when a page gets submitted, or that special day when all the books arrive. It continues to amaze me how despite all the setbacks we may encounter it proves worth it each time.

The image to the left is the style sheet I created for the class. In the process of making this, I was simultaneously trying to find out what was going in the book and what wasn't. Essentially figuring out the design for the book.

Awards

My junior year we went to the Fall 2019 MSPA convention where we were awarded the Best of Mississippi 2019 yearbook. An award that we were so excited to have earned especially with all the stress and tears that went into that year's book.

This fall for the virtual 2020 Convention I won both Best Feature Writing and Best Feature Spread. I was awarded these awards for a spread in which I was very proud of and felt very passionate about.
